Insomnia is a common sleep disorder characterised by difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early and being unable to get back to sleep. People experiencing insomnia often report one or more of these: trouble initiating sleep, waking frequently during the night, waking up far too early, and/or not feeling refreshed despite adequate time in bed. Daytime consequences may include fatigue, irritability, problems concentrating or remembering, reduced performance, and increased errors or accidents. What Causes It?

Insomnia often arises from a blend of factors: stress and life-events, anxiety or depression, medical or physical conditions, medications, poor sleep habits and disruptions to the body’s sleep–wake cycle.
